The travel hockey season is here! Whether you're a hockey mom, hockey dad or just part of the team family, the start of the season is the perfect time to build connections and make memories. This post shares 4 fun team bonding ideas and 2 quick, crowd-pleasing dinner for those busy hockey nights. Perfect for parents on the go - and applicable to any sport or busy after school activity!
One of the things that stands out to me most, as a sports mom, is how difficult it is to take advantage of those rare weekends when we have nothing on the calendar. Ever since my son started playing travel hockey, our schedule has been planned around game weekends. Want to go away for school vacation week? Nope, there is a tournament that weekend. Looking to do a quick getaway for a long weekend - nope, tournament. And while I do not regret a single second of our hockey life, what I do regret is our inability to plan fun family things when there isn’t a game. I try, really. But no one ever wants to do anything. Hubby has a list of things to do around the house. Teenage daughter hides away in her tv room binging awful reality television.
And hockey player is glued to his Switch or PS5. I can’t even get them into the backyard to enjoy our pool. At least during the summer we have been home together during the day.
And now that school is almost back in session, I ask the hive mind - what do you do on non-game weekends? Family time? Let everyone chill out? Household chores? And if you get that elusive family time going, how? Share your ideas, please! And raise your hand if you, too, wish for some family fun and downtime amidst the craziness of travel sports.
